Its
principal aim is to
closely monitor all European Union (EU) initiatives that
have a direct impact on the business world and on the Spanish
Chambers of Commerce in Europe.
It
has gradually extended its activities to include training,
the dissemination of information and increasing awareness
of European integration and, in so doing, it has added value
to the activities of associated Chambers and given them
a European dimension. The Chambers have, therefore, expanded
their usual role of supporting
member companies to include dealing with
inquiries on EU legislation and programmes, seeking associates
for EU projects and holding seminars on current European
issues, etc.
FEDECOM's
headquarters are in Brussels,
which facilitates access to the information generated by
EU institutions and
the task of representing the interests of the Chambers and
their members.
The federation is governed by a Board
of Directors, which is currently chaired by Mr. Rosendo Candela Coto, Vice-president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce
in Italy. The remaining members of the Council are made up
from the other Chambers.
The Secretary General, Mr. Joseba Arriortua, sees that Management Council
decisions are complied with and that the Federation's activities
are implemented in accordance with those decisions. He also co-ordinates
the federation's services and activities.
The
Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce
provides support to FEDECOM in the development of its activities.
